Review of Outpost (2008) by James L — 24 Aug 2009
OutPost is a good war type horror movie that is nearly as good as Dog Soldiers. It definately in the vein of that type of horror but it isn't werewolves in this one, nope it's Zombies. But these Zombies aren't just zombies but Nazi Zombies and not the flesh eating kind either, these are the scary murderous kind and they do have some nasty ways of dispatching someone.
I rented this one keeping an open mind cause this wasn't a gut muncher kind of Zombie movie but a killer one. I must say I did enjoy it. Ok the gore and the major action scenes don't start until 40mins into the film but the director does a good job of building the tension about what it about to happen.
Thing was that I didn't find this boring and got to like some of the characters as they weren't picked off so early as to not really care about them. Especially DC who is played well by Ray Stevenson who was recently in Punisher: Warzone in which he too plays a strong male lead.
I did feel sorry for some of the team towards the end as I did want them to win the day against the bloodthirsty murderous undead. If you go into this just going by the cover that says Gory as hell, you may be disappointed cause it's not wall to wall gore and blood but there are some very graphic scenes of torture and violence bu the Nazis that did make me wince once or twice.
If you are after a Nazi zombie film with wall to wall blood and guts see Dead Snow but if you want a good character based horror then check out OutPost.
