Review of Outlaw King (2018) by Matt H — 11 Nov 2018
Outlaw King captivated me from the first long, uncut shot from a candle close-up, through a swordfight to a flaming catapult assault upon a distant castle. The story picks up where Braveheart left off.
The cinematography, locations and costumes are stunning. Unlike Braveheart and many other epic medeival stories, this felt more realistic and compelling. I never got the sense that these rag-tag Scots could pull off a victory until they began using the land to their advantage and guerrilla tactics.
The love story develops in an interesting way and we see the sacrifices women made in this culture. I would pay to see this on the big screen. A refreshingly good Netflix production.
