Review of Outland (1981) by David M — 06 Mar 2010
You're stuck as a lawman on a moon of Jupiter, where they do nothing but mine titanium. When bad stuff goes down, who ya gonna call? This movie has mellowed with age (it's now 29 yrs old), but Sean Connery's performance is still good, and the first couple of acts are still very engaging.
Frances Sternhagen is great, her wit is a good foil for Connery's intensity. Outland almost works as a morality play set in a sci-fi environment. Too bad the finale ends up being one big shootout without resolving the moral issues.
Plot: Think 'High Noon' in space.
