Review of Out of Sight (1998) by Rameshwar N — 06 Jun 2011
It's like seeing someone for the first time. You can be passing on the street and you look at each other and for a few seconds there's this kind of recognition. Like you both know something, and the next moment the person's gone. And it's too late to do anything about it. And you always remember it because it was there and you let it go. And you think to yourself, what if I stopped? What if I said something? What if?" (Ohhh, this is so romantic lol).
Out of Sight is adapted from Elmore Leonard's novel of the same name, and tells the love story of a smart and witty bank robber (George Clooney) and sexy FBI agent (Jennifer Lopez) who should in all practicality hate each other but instead find themselves uncontrollably drawn to one another. A smoothly directed film with interesting characters! George Clooney was suave, bold, and convincing and he and Lopez had great chemistry especially in the trunk scene. Don Cheadle, Ving Rhames, Dennis Farina, Steve Zahn, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, and Albert Brooks also give good performances. The estimable Catherine Keener, who only has two scenes to make an impact, also adds a deliciously quirky presence along with Steven Soderbergh using his visuals to the best with this film.
Question: Will Lopez turn Clooney in or will they get married and go to an exotic island? Who knows - you'll just have to see it for yourself to find out.
