Review of Out of Sight (1998) by Anthony M — 08 Feb 2012
This is a rare kind of movie. Where everything just came together perfectly. The direction, script, cinematography, design and costumes display Elmore Leonard so wonderfully that no one else should be able to make one of his books into a movie again without these people involved.
And the acting deserves a world of it's own. Such great depth, comedy, and intelligence brought all these characters to life. This is the part Clooney was born to play. His charisma is tangible, but on the other side the sense of fatalism makes his character extremely compelling.
And Lopez figures out that sexy and intelligence balance is so much better. She doesn't wear anything provocative but I'll take this Lopez any day over the ass shaking one you usually get. I don't like Lopez a bit.
But this is one of her shining moments. And the Clooney/Lopez pairing was so natural. All the supporters hold up to the main stars. Cheadle is wonderfully ruthless. Brooks does what Brooks does best. Rhames is charming.
And Zahn does a wonderful job and one of his best roles. It's hard to find movies this good. Hopefully it'll get remembered better in the future then it is now.
