A solid thriller but nothing special (and after The Night Manager, it would probably fare better on BBC1 on a Sunday night) with a script that doesn't really give its main cast much to do other than run around and do expressions of Basil Exposition.

It is a prettily shot film with a few moments of suspense but sadly peaks too early halfway through the film. It doesn't help that the predictably bittersweet Le Carré ending doesn't really stand up to scrutiny and feels underwhelming, if not simply trite.

Surprisingly, Stellan Skarsgard's shouty Russian mafia guy turns out to be the most nuanced character and, totally random thought: if they ever decide to remake the Harry Palmer movies, wouldn't Damien Lewis be an ideal candidate?
