Review of Our Idiot Brother (2011) by Paul N — 20 Sep 2013
This movie would be a lot more compelling if the main character wasn't, literally, an idiot, and was more of a figurative one. It has a lot of laughs in it, but the emotion is pretty forced and unbelievable.
The ending, while true to the genre, is also shallow and hollow. Performances are good all the way around, but are also pretty one-dimensional. Nobody is stretching here, but the film still ends up lightly entertaining.
Beware, contrary to what another reviewer stated, there is plenty of vulgarity in this movie, from two sex scenes to the liberal dosage of f-bombs and profanity throughout (including from the mouth of a 7-year old boy).
Not a family film (unless your family is into that stuff), but a film about a family that you might recognize to some degree in your own.
