Review of Our Hospitality (1923) by Chris D — 04 Jul 2010
There really is just one word: Brilliant. It's overused but this film just reeks of being well thought-out. The physical comedy is top-notch, and it just shows that comedy ages better than drama: I laughed a lot during this film. The whole early train sequence was a pure riot, that is the train of hell!
Buster Keaton is pitch-perfect as the "son of John McKay", who is forced against his will to continue the family feud between The McKays and The Canfields, as he returns to claim his families "real estate". The movie is one long comedy skit, filled with all sorts of funny and ridiculous scenarios. I've never seen a Buster Keaton movie before, but this first one makes a really great impression, and anyone that enjoys slapstick comedy should mark this film as a must-see. It's hilarious.
