Review of Our Daily Bread (2006) by Nobuko H — 28 Jan 2008
A really beautifully-composed and well measured film, depicting (without flinching) various types of mass mechanised food production. Fields, greenhouses, factories, production lines all recede into the horizon.
Some of it is also just downright fascinating, and traces a complete process (birth to death of battery chickens, the planting, picking and removal of vines, etc.). Go just to see olives being harvested, but you might want to look away at some of the abattoir scenes.
