Review of Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) by Isadore H — 23 Oct 2016
Oujia: Origin of Evil is a prequel to the disappointing Oujia movie made a few years ago. When I heard Mike Flanagan was directing this one, I felt bad for the dude to be stuck with such a desperate money grab, then I heard that it was a passion project of his, my curiosity was piqued.
After some awful trailers I lost excitement but still went to see it because I was such a big fan of Oculus, a movie which I found absolutely terrifying. I gotta say, while Oujia 2 maybe isn't quite as scary as Oculus, I was mesmerized by the plot, acting, and plenty of scares to satisfy.
Flanagan is great at taking intriguing storylines and executing them very well on screen. I really was interested the whole time I was watching this movie. The actors were really good as well, especially the little girl, who put on an amazing performance as she got possessed.
There were some jump scares and the film starts out slow, but these are minor complaints about a otherwise very good horror film, much better than the original deserved.
