Review of Otis (2008) by Derek L — 23 Aug 2008
This movie probably isn't for everyone, but it has some twisted dark humor - and it'll make you never look at your pizza delivery guy in quite the same light again. LOL!!
Otis is trying to relive his brother's glory days of high school, since its fairly safe that Otis probably never went to the prom or dated the cheerleader in high school. After he accidentally kills his 5th "Kim" - named after his sister-in-law - he's on the hunt for his 6th. The 40 yr. old pizza delivery guy happens to find the perfect "Kim" in Riley. Fortunately Riley is smart enough to play along with the game until she sees her opening for an escape. Meanwhile, her poor family has been suffering for weeks while she's been missing. They have put up with Agent Hutchkiss, a FBI Special Agent - who put the "special" in Special Agent. His recovery rate is 80%, until his fellow agent reminds him that they only found 60% of the last "Kim" kidnap victim. The story gets even more twisted when Riley's family decides to take matters in their own hands to exact their revenge on Otis... but an unfortunate case of mistaken identity adds to the mix, and dark hilarity ensues. You almost feel sorry for Otis at times - but then you remember that he's a sick, twisted, sadistic s.o.b. My favorite character was Riley's brother Reed - he pretty much steals every scene he's in, and her mother is a total hoot too! It shows how a "decent, average family" can be quickly pushed over the edge, especially when the authority figure that they trust, such as Hutchkiss, keeps letting them down.
