Review of OSS 117: Lost in Rio (2009) by Segun B — 02 Sep 2010
Perhaps, its out of extreme boredom, or the countless hours trying to make sense of the Chu-Liu/Edmond's algorithm, but OSS117 was such a welcome break. It was funny, unashamedly French and everything politically uncorrect with the tounge and cheek humour of days gone by such as Mind Your Language...luv'd it.
This time our favourite bumbling idiot of a secret agent, is off to Rio to arrest a former Nazi and recover information the French authorities would rather not be made public whilst still being huanted down by the Chinesse mafia boss Mr Lee. And as you'd guess, De La Bath or completely blown cover id Mr Flantier, puts his vacation in Rio before the mission and can't resist photo ops and much much more which includes trying to pull the Isreali agent Lieutenant Dolores. I was left in stitches during the hospital, well car chase on foot, scene. There was even something funny about the relationship between OSS117 and French speaking with an American accent CIA operative Bill Trumendous, who as you may well guess is a slieezy and shifty character....well this is a French movie after all and we Europeans don't think much of Americans even if we are friends. At least tjhats the message.
Stupidly funny, clever dialogue, definitely one for the collection.
