Review of Orpheus (2013) by Melissa D — 24 Mar 2008
This is incredible. Cocteau pushes what film can do, with trick photography and incredible images, and uses these tricks to tell a classic myth with verve, originality and imagination. This may be seen as a descendant of Melies (with trick photography), and a precursor of the great Terry Gilliam (with the retelling of myths, and deconstruction of truth in them).
Fantastic!
