Review of Orpheus (2013) by Private U — 10 Aug 2008
Poetic, ethereal and somnambulistic, Orphée remains as the most accessible of Jean Cocteau's musings on the subject of the artist and his oftentimes self-destructive creative impulses. This modernizing treatment of the ancient myth is one of those rare, fully-realized endeavors beyond the corrupting guises of modern technology.
Each frame remains as a gorgeous reminder of why we go to see movies. With the injection of timeless and simple special effects which react with a simple and recognizable storyline this formula yields one of the most memorable films in history.
