Review of Orphan (2009) by Velina M — 13 Feb 2012
Instead of building deep feelings to character(s) and make audience's har beat fast because of that, director pump hartbeating with sound/visual accents and "scary" music (it's fidget music actualy). Movie have some twists which I couldn't predict, but two main things I knew from beginning. Than I watched movie too see, how director will put together whole thing to cover those main two things. And I must say, pretty stupid sometimes. Example: A horror movi cliche, when someone suddeny appear near someone else, through flashes and thunder, with scary background music. That cliche director obviously liked so much, that he sacrificed credibility. He introduced stormy weather during cold dry winter with thunders and lightnings while it was still snowing wery easy, with snow flakes falling like in no-wind condition. Impossible (storm needs temperature difference, moisture and wind). And there is much more. It seem like Ester is more KGB agent, concluded by her skills and immortality, than poor distracted person.
Movie create false feeling that every accident with his kid was because some evil was behind. If watched "con grano salis", it can be seen how parents and relatives were unnatural and ignorant; no parent would act like that!
Bad movie, agreed with my wife. Bad directed of course!
