Review of Orphan (2009) by Johnbobs1 — 22 Feb 2021
Orphan is an enjoyable, shocking and clever horror film, that I would recommend. It has a few minus points of course. At two hours long, it drags out a bit. I have to say it took me some 45 mins to get interested in it.
It's also a mixture of shocking and slapstick, with villainous kid being strangely reminiscent of villanelle in killing eve (not a bad thing, but not exactly a true to life character). As I say it's hugely fun though, and also tense and effective.
Visually affecting too, with some disturbing effects. The best thing about the film is of course the completely daft plot twist near the end, which also seemed somehow perfect and we'll done. Not perfect but solid and we'll made modern horror.
