Review of Orphan (2009) by Chad H — 25 Feb 2013
I really do not understand the rating for this movie. I thought it was very well put together and interesting, even though the whole Esther thing was pretty predictable it still had its great moments. I thought the movie did a wonderful job in terms of visual and atmosphere especially with the characters.
The actors were great, you can really feel the tension and raw emotion from the characters from fear from the other children to Esther's cold and dark stare. Isabelle Furhman is phenomenal in this one its hard to believe a girl at such a young age could pull of this dark and fucked up character.
Her accent just adds to the overall flow, the movie has a very chilling atmosphere and is full of those scenes that piss you off because evil if beginning to triumph over good, but just when you get pissed off to a point that you are disgusted with Esther the movie brings you back into focus and calms you down but brings you right back with the same momentum.
This really is a great example of a modern day chiller, it has its moments that just do not together to well but what movie doesn't have those. This movie really focuses on the aspect of a killer within the closeness of the family whereas the protection of your family is being breached and corrupted from the inside out.
Its great I mean it really is, it gives you a sense of paranoia which is great. What I also love about this movie is the atmosphere its so chilling and eerie, the baron landscape filled with snow just adds to that whole isolation factor.
I do want to say that Esther is the kind of character that you just love to hate and I think she does a wonderous job of doing so. All you want to see by the end is her getting just what she deserves.
This is also the kind movie that definitely will keep you in suspense. But check it out if you haven't already its sure to please any horror or chiller fan out there!
