Review of Ordinary People (1980) by Joe C — 20 Feb 2008
It can be a little melodramatic at times, but the film does an effective job at portraying a family falling apart below the surface. Conrad, the son, tries to committ suicide, and his father and mother (especially his mother) are forced to deal with internal problems.
Mary Tyler Moore does an effective job of portraying a mother who needs control in her life. The ending is perfect, resolving some issues but leaving others open to interpretation. It's a based on a book and is supposed to be very truthful to said book.
I forget the title, but I'll have to check it out.
