Review of Ordinary People (1980) by Bill T — 03 Mar 2008
It's as if Redford made a Bergman movie as his first director. This is a relatively simple story, but complex underneath the surface. I liked watching Moore finally relishing the chance to do something amazingly different than comedy.
The most amazing performance though, comes from Timothy Hutton. Just an astonishingly real performance. So so good. Best actor worthy (well, not so good to beat Robert DeNiro as Jake Lamotta). Judd Hirsch surprised me too.
The movie's weak link, is in fact Donald Sutherland. Academy was right not to nominate him. Academy was wrong though to have this win Best Picture over Raging Bull though lol.
