Review of Opera (1987) by Tyler J — 17 Aug 2008
A grisly film, with effects and shots that obviously inspire horror to this day. I was enthralled with the thrill of wondering who was the killer, and what would happen next, despite how horrid the film was.
Argento must be a master to be able to keep me interested when all of his actors could not deliver a single line realistically, nor find any nuance to character. The actors simply delivered lines that sounded stilted and self-important.
The story was poorly written, or edited, or both, because it felt disjointed, jumping from one moment to another without any real connection. The characters' behavior made no sense, as she avoided reporting crimes she saw, etc.
All in all it was a 'meh' film without much more than the horror Argento-isms to write home about.
