Review of Opening Night (1933) by Raül J — 05 Jul 2008
Is this a masterpiece or a mess? Again the difference between the answers could be very hard to tell, but I incline myself towards the first option. Why? Because the superb performance, astonishing, terrific, of Rowlands, who scares and makes us feel her pain as a messy, self-destructive actrees, but at the same time talented and decided to do whatever it takes to get into her character.
In that sense the sense of chaos in the movie feels logical to me. A very powerful movie. Not easy, but the reward is wonderful.
