I haven't seen the first Open Water, and I don't know exactly why. Probably because I just keep putting it off due to all the negativity. Not that I won't give a negative reviewed movie a chance, it just might be it slips down my list of priority viewing.

Somehow I managed to see the sequel Open Water 2: Adrift. Again, not the greatest love for this movie out there, and I believe it's of the direct-to-dvd variety.

A group of old high school mates get together for a pleasure cruise on a yacht. Everyone's partying, having a great time. Of course they're going to take a dip in the ocean. But whoops... somebody forgot to lower the ladder. To make matters worse, one of the women, Amy, has a phobia of water. Even worse yet, her baby is alone on the boat!

How could this get goofed so bad? These aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, obviously, except for maybe Amy. She has an excuse, as her going into the water is unexpected.

Six people frantically trying to find a way back onto the boat. There wouldn't be much of a movie if it was easy, now would there.

Getting past the stupidity, there is a human interest story here. Yes, I felt bad for them. I mean, even when somebody does something really dumb, you have to kind of feel for them. Right? Maybe? Possibly? Well I did.

Often times I try and put myself in the character's shoes. Knowing getting back on board is extremely difficult at best, it's a terrifying notion, I think.

The movie isn't bad entertainment. I wouldn't say I knew the characters all that well, but what kept me hooked was trying to figure out how they would get back aboard, if they would at all.

The ending though, confused me. I wasn't happy about that, and was left bitter about it all. Maybe I'm not any smarter than this group, or maybe the ending is legitimately whacky. I may visit it again sometime to see if I can make sense of it. It was good enough to leave that door open.

A fairly long review for a 3 star rating, but sometimes I just feel like goin', ya know?
