Review of Open Water 2: Adrift (2006) by Dave E — 01 Jun 2008
A deeply evil film. I turned it on, the volume all the way down, while reading. Every now and then I looked up and witnessed the suffering. You'd think that as a result of not hearing any of the dialogue I would have a limited comprehension of what took place in the film.
However, Open Water 2 did not need a screenplay in any coherent sense of the word---I understood everything that happened with probably more clarity than I would have if I had listened to the words that the actors mouthed.
Open Water 2 certainly had no complex plotting: a bunch of young, attractive, upper-class yacht dabblers found themselves in the water, no way out. They fought, they yelled, they cursed, they stabbed each other with knives, and they died (for the most part).
How wonderfully existential! Highly recommended for masochists, sailing enthusiasts, and those without any empathy.
