Review of Open Water 2: Adrift (2006) by Elaine M — 23 Dec 2008
A group of friends including a couple and their baby forget to let down the ladder on the yacht they are travelling on before jumping into the ocean for a swim. Their persisting attempts to climb back up are useless (but sufficiently hilarious) and with the baby left alone on board, screaming its chubby little face off through the monitor, desperation ensues.
Forget about 'Open Water', this is the one you want to watch- it has to be the funniest film of its kind. Except for the baby's mother Amy (portrayed very well by Susan May Pratt), the characters are all so wonderfully thick, and watching them drift around a boat trying to climb up using nothing but their hands, is priceless, as is the exclamation of 'He needs to get to a hospital!' when a skull fracture and stab wound to the heart put two of their crew into critical condition (and I'll add that the first guy swam into the boat, and the second guy actually stabbed himself by accident).
Although the deaths are stupid, they are so unpredictable and will have you in constant hysterics. The ending is awful, but it doesn't matter- in the end, if you take the movie seriously you're going to hate it.
