Review of Open Water 2: Adrift (2006) by Luke R — 06 Feb 2010
If nothing else this a brilliant advertisement for life jackets. Unfortunately it really is little more.
A group of high school friends meet-up for a weekend cruise, jump in the sea and forget to put the ladder down. Bad things happen. That was the plot.
Frankly that's a good thing because this is also a good advertisement for picking your friends carefully and paying some attention in school so that you don't end up as a complete prat who forgot to borrow the family brain cell in the middle of a tedious and very unoriginal storyline. Naturally enough all participants look swimsuit-friendly, but after far too long listening to the usual, woe-is-me hysteria and paranoia, it's no compensation for proceedings grating along with the cringe factor of a jellyfish with steel tentacles.
It is worthy of its star because it's the middle of winter at the time of writing and the camera-work does make tropical water look nice. Even this film can't balls that up.
