Review of Open Range (2003) by Alexis S — 21 Mar 2012
Boss Spearman (Robert Duvall) and Charlie Waite (Kevin Costner) are two rough hewn cowboys traveling the country with their herd of cattle in tow. Living a simple life out on the prairie, they soon find that things aren't so simple when a wealthy and ruthless landowner Denton Baxter (Michael Gambon) takes issue with the cowboys cattle feeding on his land.
After some of Baxter's hired guns attack the two young hired men traveling with Boss Spearman and Charlie Waite they decide to fight back. This is an instant classic western film with solid performance from Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner, Michael Gambon, & Annette Bening.
Though it is a bit slow in the first two segments, the action payoff is well worth the wait in the last segment.
