Review of Open House (2010) by Nyk P — 18 Aug 2010
Lions Gate is known for producing a LOT of low budget, independent horror movies. Watching them can be compared to sifting a river for gold flakes- sometimes you find a decent nugget, most times, you don't. This movie is one of those times where, you don't.
This suspense thriller is well shot. The problem is that the suspense just isn't really there.
You learn too much about the killers, and why they do what they do. The only real suspense is in wondering when they'll get around to killing the main character.
The characters aren't even all that interesting either. One is a kinky bitch, and the other is a lifeless automaton. Characters are only introduced in order to get killed- thus supplying the audience with the "thriller" part of this genre.
I will admit, that I did enjoy the twist of the killers... but that twist is revealed so early in the movie, that the rest is kinda non-shocking.
As beautifully shot as it is, it wasn't enough to save this movie.
