Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Brice B — 22 Nov 2013
Don't judge Refn on Drive... That was his only commercial movie. This is between Valhalla Rising and Drive.
This movie is pure Refn with scenes very hard to watch, some other scenes you don't really understand, beautiful photography, good and strange soundtrack, and of course a total absence of morality.
Many of the cast and crew are Thai so Thailand has not only been chosen for its landscapes and decors which is really a good thing and brings a fresh eye to the cinematography.
Of course there are many things I didn't like in the movie (like the role of Mai who plays the role of a prostitute with a PHD) but I salute the courage of Refn who decided not to follow Drive's commercial path... Until maybe Drive II.
