Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Callum R — 01 May 2014
A grotesquely slow revenge drama, that thrives solely on visual metaphors contemplating morality from Refn. Kristin Scott Thomas is fantastic as the malevolent matriarch...but that's only because she's one of the few characters with any lines of dialogue.
The cinematography is beautiful, less violent than what is claimed, and the score throbs subtly along to its art house aspirations. It doesn't work, but whose to say this was Refns aim anyway...
