Review of Only Angels Have Wings (1939) by Michael H — 23 Aug 2009
This film starts well and ends well; its one problem is the middle which suffers from a scarcity of Jean Arthur. When she's on screen the film is clever, funny and atypical. The scenes where Grant has to carry the picture are too formulaic.
With a more consistent tone, this could have been something really special. As is, it's still a fine picture.
