Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Obando M — 16 Oct 2009
A solid 3 star film. Ah, that rating may be a bit misleading. I liked this movie quite a bit but I can't really award it any more than that. Tony Jaa further improves on his impressive skills as a leading man in martial arts, adding a diversified array of weaponry to his flick.
He also tries out some more work behind the camera as the director. He does decently, it's clear from the beginning it was all about Jaa and his fighting. I felt that the plot, while as thin as can be, had a lot of heart put into it.
You've got a director that really cherishes his material and that's very commendable. Ong Bak 2 is a wild, interesting ride, just not as epic as it thinks it is.
