Review of One Thousand Ropes (2017) by Kathleen W — 09 Apr 2017
Really engaging and beautiful and challenging throughout. I like that this film doesn't stick to genre definitions - weighing heavily on horror elements without ever tying itself to horror expectations.
I looked at bodies in ways I haven't before. It was inspiring to see images of the city I live in - usually something that pulls you out of a film, or makes the artifice more clear - but in this case it was strengthening, stating plainly that this place deserves to be seen on screen.
