Review of One Missed Call (2003) by Ant G — 04 Jan 2008
I love Miike, from his Ichi the Killer to MPD Psycho.. so I had to see this movie. I'm rating the movie quite high as it's imaginitive and whereas american movies prefer to use loud noises to make you jump, rather than the action itself, it's good for a back to basics horror movie.
It's more of a psycho horror thriller. The premis is just very simple - you get a call from your own mobile phone, but it's a few days in the future. Then who ever called you snuffs it.
People who've seen movies like the Ring Original Version will be used to the japanese style of nasty ghosts.
Likes:
The fast pace of the early deaths and the investigation of the ghost.
The TV live report scene... classic and anti hollywood as well ahaah!
Genuine scare moments, not carried by huge special effects nor turning up the volume.
Bad:
Some plot holes, especially near the end with the OTHER telephone.
The twist in the end... not very clear what's going on.
