Review of One Hour Photo (2002) by Lauren W — 16 Jan 2011
After re-watching this I really fell in love with it. It's basically "Taxi Driver" in a Wal-Mart but it's filmed beautifully. This is the type of film that Kubrick would've made if he were still alive.
The harsh whites and steely blue colors create this intoxicating sense of cold, emotionless, sanitized, perfection that makes up Sy's world. The shots of him walking through these perfectly arranged and symmetrical isles are beautiful and dehumanizing at the same time.
Robin Williams give his most realistic and subtle performance that really conveys a sense of fragility he's never showed before.
