Review of One Hour Photo (2002) by Jack N — 29 Apr 2011
A tense and creepy thriller with a superb performance from Williams. If you still have the misguided idea that he only stars in very funny films, get it out of your head before watching this.
Like many thrillers, the music and lighting play a vital role in this films. However, many scenes take place in very bright areas, which may be a little unusual but works superbly in this film. There are also dark scenes and a scene in the dim red light of a photo developing studio. The music is simple but creepy and adds very much to the mysterious effect of the film and Williams' character especially.
The directing here is superb. It's not a ridiculously unrealistic story that we can automatically dismiss, assuming it'll never happen to us, but a very real one with believable characters and an intense storyline.
Don't watch it too late at night or you may not sleep easy...
