Review of One Hour Photo (2002) by Tigress . — 09 Feb 2014
One Hour Photo is a chilling and creepy film, which offers an in-depth look into the nature of a man who is slowly going mad with obsession. Robin Williams shines in his role as "Sy" (the photo guy).
He is fixated on one family, who delivers their photos to be developed by him. He knows their most intimate details, and subtly attempts to work his way into their life, as "Uncle Sy." Though he is the quintessential madman, stalking his quarry (quoted by Sy in the film: ".
..the word "snapshot" was originally a hunting term"), one can actually feel the sadness and loneliness portrayed by his character. The film successfully paints him as relatable, because he embodies such a perfect portrayal of alienation and isolation, and this, in my book, makes him the perfect villain.
I wouldn't hesitate to say that this is one of, if not the, best performances by Robin Williams. Gradually but ever so confidently builds to a superb climax. Much applause for the riveting performance by Robin Williams who plays his role so well you forget he is an actor.
