Review of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) by Thomas V — 01 May 2012
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a deep immersion into the daily life of an insane asylum, which McMurphy joins in his right mind, trying to avoid jail. Milos Forman's movie goes beyond the mental impairments of the patients, and succeeds at dealing with the problem of treatments, the minutiae of patients' behaviour and how they all try and adapt to the arrival of the new patient.
Great direction, great cast also aside from the terrific lead played by Nicholson. In an environment which he only saw at first as a way out of his sentence, McMurphy develops increasingly intense friendships with the patients and grows fond of them.
I personnaly found this aspect to be astounding of reality, we can see his gradual difficulty to actually go through and escape from the asylum. The ending is all the more emotional and really concludes the movie perfectly.
A masterpiece and must-see, watching One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest never gets old.
