Review of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) by Jay P — 01 Oct 2012
Have you ever watche da movie so good that it brought tears to your eyes? This is one of those I am speaking of.
PLOT:When Randall P. McMurhpy (Jack Nicholson) has himself put in a mental institution because he doesn't want to deal with prison work, he grows closer to the patients, including a mute Chief (Will Sampson), and finds a growing hatred for the lead nurse, Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). After seeing the condition the head nurse is hosting these mental patients and getting to know the patients, McMurphy tries to break the monotany of institution life, let the patients rule, and the staff fall. I've always wanted to see a good movie focusing on a mental institution, and this is the one I am definitely looking for. The plot is ungeneric and executed beyond perfectly.
ACTING:There really wasn't a bad performance in the bunch. Among Nicholson, Sampson, and Fletcher; we have Christopher Lloyd and Danny DeVito. There were no shiners, because everybody did a perfect job! Of course, Nicholson was outstanding, but there is nobody to compare him to in here because everybody was just great!
SCORE:Emotional and haunting. It has a very distinct theme and fits everything right emotionally.
CAMERAWORK:Great. The shots were basic, but captured very intensely to where you could feel the action unrolling with you.
OTHER CONTENT:This movie affected me in a way I shall not forget. It was perfect in everything on the list, yet insane and out of the status quo. It truly showed how our world isn't so different from a mental institution at all.
OVERALL,an epic movie with a beyond perfect plot, outstanding acting, hauntingly emotional score, and great camerawork.
