Review of One-Eyed Jacks (1961) by John G — 19 Jul 2010
I give this film 5 stars because it is one of the greatest westerns ever. It's the only film Marlon Brando completely directed (supposedly Stanley Kubrick was slated to direct). Someone on facebook reviewed this as a "great little western". Great; yes. Little; no. This is an epic film, running at almost 2 1/2 hours, with some of the greatest actors of the 50's and 60's. I'm surprised Karl Malden and Slim Pickens aren't listed under 'cast' on facebook, not to mention Ben Johnson. The only complaint some might have is that it drags a little. And unless you're totally enamored with the relationship between Rio and Dad Longworth I can appreciate why. However, if you like serious westerns this should be next on your list.
