Only Samuel L. Jackson could offer the defiance needed to effectively do this sort of movie. His brave, hard-boiled urban school teacher who single handedly challenges an adolescent hispanic gang for the sake of his other students has a nobility that is matched only by the sheer pathos of its conclusion.
