Review of One Direction: This Is Us (2013) by Kimberly S — 30 Aug 2013
It's not so much a documentary as a love letter to their fans. Edited to show only the nice side of their lives on the road. Very scripted but will make fans happy. I enjoyed the comments from their parents and how they felt about it all. Image having your 16-17 year old away from home for all but 5 days in 2 1/2 years--without warning. Two dads expressed rather sad comments that they had nothing to offer their worldly sons and they missed the times they had hoped to take in some games and a beer with their sons as they matured. That spoke to me.
The members do seem to get along well. Having seen them in concert on this tour when they visited Hershey, PA, they really looked like they were having fun together.
Anyway... if you're a parent who has to take a child to this film, it shouldn't be too painful. If you're a fan, you'll probably love it. 4/5 stars because it was TOO scripted.
