Review of One Chance (2013) by Dannyboy S — 17 Dec 2013
I didn't have any preconceived notions about this film before I went to see it, except the possibility that it would be feel-good. I didn't predict that it would be cringe-worthy, not at all, and it wasn't.
Instead it was consistently amusing and often funny. It was also interesting to the point where you DON'T wonder why Paul's big audition on 'Britain's Got Talent' takes so long to come along.
The whole process with this singing competition isn't the focus at all and is only dealt with in the last eight or so minutes of the movie. This may disappoint some because maybe viewers want to know some behind-the-scenes stuff to do with the show.
This is a true story, but Paul's ultimate success is basically summarized at the end. The movie is a lead-up to his TV performance, and the story overall does happen to be pretty good. Paul was hugely tormented growing up, and later on he was rocked by frequent failures that ended up haunting him and stalling his career.
It might be an underdog story, it might be destiny, but at least this movie isn't an advertisement for the TV show that helped Paul.
