Review of One-Armed Boxer (1972) by Dsfsdfdsf S — 14 Aug 2012
At first glance it's got all the ridiculousness of its sequel, with a one armed protagonist, rather racist caricatures of Thais, Japanese (one of them literally has fangs), Tibetan Lamas who expand like balloons to "power up", and so forth. On the other hand, it's played outrageously straight as a revenge thread (even moreso than Master of the Flying Guillotine), which renders the comic excesses all the more absurd. Keep in mind 1971 was the same year as Bruce Lee's first film.
Great violence--this does have Jimmy Wang Yu in it--and it works rather well dramatically. Stone cold genre classic.
