Review of Ondine (2010) by Ceph J — 06 Jun 2010
An irish fisherman (Colin Farrell) hauls in his catch and, OMG, there's a beautiful woman (Bachleda) in his net. This is a good beginning. Is she a mermaid? What the BFD? We'll get to the answers by the end of the movie but a good beginning doesn't mean a good ending.
Neil Jordan has directed some memorable movies like "The Crying Game," Interview with a Vampire" and "Mona Lisa." Here, the story doesn't really hold up so we're left with very good performances from Farrell, Bachleda, and Alison Barry as Annie who almost steals the movie--she's so engaging. The cinematography is excellent and some scenes show the artistery of Jordan in admiring the location.
It's nice to see Farrell showing potential as an actor after his excellent turn in "In Bruges.".
