Review of Ondine (2010) by Asitha D — 19 Jun 2010
We often talk about books that should be made into movies. Well, this is a movie that should be made into a book! It truly feels as though it's a modern fairy tale - it has the proper amount of fantastic elements and reality, the proper hue of love and human bonds.
I really liked all cast members in their roles. Colin Farrell at last with his wonderfully Irish accent alongside Alicja Bachleda (for those who might remember from Trade, if not, great to get to know her in this movie), and tremendously engaging child actress Alison Barry. Neil Jordan's direction is quite typical of a Neil Jordan direction - no need to intervene there. And I absolutely loved the soundtrack. I think it brought the movie to life.
It's quite a sweet and feel-good movie, just what you need for a lazy summer afternoon. Not one of Jordan's strongest films, of course, but it's good enough.
