Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by Ben E — 20 Oct 2011
Breathtaking. Undoubtedly for me, one of the greatest films ever made. Charles Bronson as Harmonica, Henry Fonda as Frank and Claudia Cardinale as Jill. All three performances are perfect, Bronson is beyond perfection.
Claudia puts every woman in the world to shame. And Henry Fonda plays his villainous role to a T. Not only is the acting wonderful, no score for any other film could be in the same ballpark as this, it is also in this same ballpark for cinematography.
Visually, almost every frame of the movie could be blown up and used as a mural on a church ceiling. I can't say enough about it, it's one of those movies you either love or you hate. And I'm not one of those, it's much more than that to me.
It's in it's own film-making ballpark, nothing can match it. All hail Sergio Leone.
