Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by X X — 01 Oct 2012
As a work of sweeping mythopoeia, it's the greatest Western ever made. Leone's vision is less furious and more steady-handed here than in his Man With No Name trilogy, and given a story about more than gunslingers, together with Ennio Morricone's most luscious score, he creates a mythology of place as iconic and mesmerizing as any ever committed to film.
