Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by Valentin A — 29 Jun 2013
If you think a film is hardly a masterpiece, then it's not a masterpiece at all. A true masterpiece is undoubtedly a masterpiece, you just know it. This film is easily a masterpiece and it represents Leone's zenith as a moviemaker.
It's superior to the brilliant "Man with no name" trilogy, for it isn't just a bright, perfectly crafted, thrilling gold rush. It is also movingly humane. This film mai be a vengeful straight razor, but it certainly has a soul.
