Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by Emanuele C — 26 Feb 2018
Once Upon a Time in the West, or how it is called in Italy "C'era una volta il west" is basically Sergio Leone at his best. Everything in this movie seems to work perfectly: the intriguing story will capture the viewer's attention, also thanks to some of the best well written characters in the history of cinema. Claudia Cardinale is simply stunning and her acting is nothing but captivating: her eyes are so full of emotions that it's basically impossible not to admire her. She's a classy actress and this movie is the definitive proof. Fonda, Bronson and the rest of the cast is, again, perfect: it seems as if the perfect alchemy was reached during the shooting days. Then, of course, there's the score: Ennio Morricone is a master and this time he reaches his highest accomplishment, by composing what is a masterpiece.
Leone's direction is simply perfect: here you can actually see how skilled he was. In my opinion, Once Upon a Time in the West is one of the best movies ever.
