Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by Kevin R — 22 Jun 2011
Your friends have a high mortality rate.
Jill McBain married young and had three children in the Wild West. As she matured she left her family and pursued a faster life in New Orleans. Six years after arriving in New Orleans she returns home to find her family shot dead and laid execution style in front of her home. Now, Jill just needs to find a way to survive; fortunately, two men will wander into her life with their own itinerary.
"You saved his life.".
"I didn't let them kill him and that's not the same thing.".
Sergio Leone, director of Duck, You Sucker; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; For a Few Dollars More; and A Fistful of Dollars, delivers Once Upon a Time in the West. The storyline for this picture is epic. The plot is well delivered and developed and the cinematography was mesmerizing. The acting was unbelievable and the cast includes Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Claudia Cardinale, Jason Robards, Jack Elam, and Keenan Wyn.
"I don't get along with the big city. It's full of fast men and loose women.".
I came across this movie while researching the next Charles Bronson movie to DVR. I own the Sergio Leone box set and adore all of his movies; however, this may be my favorite (even better than the Clint Eastwood trilogy). This is easily my all time favorite Charles Bronson picture. I strongly recommend seeing this movie if you are a fan of westerns.
"You were supposed to scare them.".
"People scare better when they're dying.
Grade: A+.
